Casa Ruby Design specializes in spatial planning, concept development, and cohesive material strategies for remodeling and new construction.

This is what it looks like when a designer is involved from the very first decision through to completion. You may choose where in this process to bring us in. There's no wrong place to start — but the earlier we're involved, the more clearly each stage informs the next.
STAGES OF A PROJECT
01
CLARITY & AGREEMENT
Defining the project clearly before designing the space

Every project starts with an inquiry. From there, scope, expectations, and investment are defined, and the relationship moves into a formal agreement once direction is confirmed.

We will have you complete a client questionnaire and provide photos, measurements, inspiration, and the details of how the space is actually lived in. Design work begins once this is received.
02
SPACE PLANNING
How the space works, before how it looks.

This stage defines layout, flow, and proportion: where things go, how a room is used, and how people will actually move through it. It's the structural foundation every later decision rests on.

You'll receive a 2D floor plan with two to three layout options.
03
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Visualizing the space, feeling the anticipation.

This is where we decide what the space will actually look and feel like: the colors, the mood, the overall style. You'll see the vision in a presentation, so you can picture the space clearly before moving forward with making material selections.
04
MATERIALS & FURNISHINGS
Selecting the things that will fill the space.

This is where the concept becomes real: finishes, fixtures, furniture, and decor are specified. Decisions are intentionally layered to create spaces that feel grounded, considered, and deeply personal.

You'll receive a presentation board of everything selected, along with a detailed list organized by room, scaled to the size of the project.
05
DESIGN IMPLEMENTATION
See the design come to life.
Every conversation, choice, and detail considered along the way finally show up in the actual space. This stage carries the design through to execution, with clear communication with the construction team and guidance on site to make sure the work matches what was planned.

This stage closes with a final walkthrough, confirming every detail is in place before the space is fully turned over.

The space now reflects you.
FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I get started?
Every project begins with an inquiry. From there, scope and investment are defined during Clarity & Agreement, so the right stage — or combination of stages — can be identified for the space. A single stage may be all that's needed, or several may be combined into one engagement.
What kinds of projects does Casa Ruby Design take on?
Remodels and new construction, across a range of scopes — from a single room to a full home, with capacity to scale further as projects grow.
What does "Investment Design" mean?
For clients who are value-focused, investment thinking is applied to the project: what's the best use of the space, how to maximize resale value or cash flow, whether the layout supports future flexibility like an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) or a lot split, and where the budget actually moves the needle on value over aesthetics. This comes from a background spanning real estate investment, development, construction, and brokerage, alongside interior design.
Who is Casa Ruby Design a good fit for?
Clients who value clarity, thoughtful decision-making, and a considered approach to design — whether the style they're after is timeless or trend-driven.
How involved do I need to be during the process?
Casa Ruby Design works best with clients who are mostly hands-off, trusting the process to carry their vision through to completion. Input is gathered at key decision points, but shopping trips and day-to-day logistics aren't part of how engagements run. This keeps the focus on delivering results.
How many revisions are included?
One complimentary round of revisions is included for Space Planning, Concept Development, and Materials & Furnishings. Clarity & Agreement and Design Implementation don't include a revision round, since those stages are about gathering information and carrying out what's already been decided.
Do your drawings include permit-ready construction documents?
No. Drawings and specifications produced during Design Implementation communicate design intent to the contractor — layouts, finishes, and placement — but they aren't engineered or permit-ready documents. Permits and approvals are the responsibility of the contractor, architect, or engineer involved in the project.
Do you manage the contractors or the construction process?
No. During Design Implementation, the role is to ensure the design is being executed as intended — confirming materials, layouts, and details match what was planned. Managing the construction schedule, trades, or budget is the contractor's or construction project manager's responsibility.
Is there a minimum project budget?
There's no set minimum. Every project is scoped individually during Clarity & Agreement, based on what the space actually needs.
Do you work with clients outside Los Angeles or Orange County, or offer remote services?
Yes to both. Casa Ruby Design works with clients beyond LA and Orange County, with stages adapted to be completed remotely where needed. Some parts of the process, like site visits and certain in-person reviews, benefit from being on location, so the right mix is worked out during Clarity & Agreement based on the project and the client's location.
Do you provide staging services?
Staging isn't currently offered as a standalone service.
